Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley

The Rich Gypsy Blog The Berkeley
Are you beach body ready? Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley is.

Rachel and I went to flex our champagne arm and give The Berkeley's afternoon tea a thorough work out.

This afternoon tea is fashion themed; cakes and fancies in the colours of the season and in the style of the world's finest designers.

And hosted in the rather luxurious Caramel room at the hotel.

We love a good catch-up.  We love London and we love cake.  So this was a perfect combo for us.

It didn't take long for the champagne to start flowing... *cough* I mean for the workout to begin.

and there were even tiny little biscuits shaped like shoes to fuel the "workout", what more could you want on a Saturday?!

The fashionista spread begins with a savoury selection; small delicate and delicious canapes and some finger sandwiches.

Sorry I can't remember what they all were, but I can assure you they were absolutely delicious!

We weren't quite sold on the concept of cold soup. Although, colour things that arrive in shot glasses should not be sniffed at... so, bottoms up!

All washed down with a spot of Laurent Perrier. The workout so far has been pretty intense...

Then after a short while, three more tiers of goodies arrived! These ones were so pretty you almost didn't want to eat them.

This was my favourite, the Giambattissta Vallia - how gorgeous is that pink colour and spun sugar!

The butterfly you can see there was inspired by Phillip Treacy butterfly hat for Alexander McQueen, it tasted a lot like a purple quality street.

The shot glass compotes were rather beautiful looking; one was a strawberry and mango flavour and then the other a Crème de Menthe cremeux with dark chocolate ribbon and mint jelly.

We opted to divide and conquer this three tier challenge.

Being super mature, Rach giggled her way through her bikini body biscuit...

We particularly enjoyed the biscuits! They were almost as good as mine... ;-)

Then we thought we better have some tea, amongst all the bubbles...

Served in this gorgeous patterned China (which I think Rachel has fallen in love with)

We were eventually defeated by all the cake and grabbed a very stylish 'to go bag' with our leftovers (sadly mine didn't survive the heat/journey home) - a big lesson to be learnt here guys, ALWAYS EAT YOUR CAKE.

The 'to go bags' perfectly complimented our outfits, as if by magic!

We decided to walk off some of the cake and took a leisurely stroll back to Paddington through Hyde Park, chatting away non-stop and soaking up the sun.  It's such a treat to catch-up with old friends especially when they've been away for so long - it's like we've never been apart!

Hyde Park was heaving! It felt like half of London was spread eagle on the grass soaking up the sun.

A fabulous day out - next time you're in the city, pop by ... I thoroughly recommend for all you afternoon tea connoisseurs!
